Dottie Mae's Costumes |
Classic Cars
Tom Strongman, Contributing Editor for the Kansas City Star wrote an article about Dorothymae (Dottie Mae) and Harold Grove's Pink Studebaker. The article appeared in the Star May 26, 2002. Some of Mr. Strongman's article is found below: Dorothymae Groves always wanted a bullet-nose Studebaker. Now she has one. And it's pink. Her husband, Harold, gave it to her for Valentine's day. Groves, the owner of Dottie Mae's...grew up in South Bend Indiana, where Studebakers were built. She and Harold tracked down this 1950 Studebaker Starlight coupe in Albuquerque, NM. When they called the owner, he said, "You probably won't want to keep it pink, because it was a promotion car for the Pink Ladies and the movie 'Grease 2.'" Groves laughed. "I looked around my store at all the Pink Ladies bowling stuff, and I had been wearing Pink Ladies clothes, " she said. "Yep, we're gonna be keeping it pink." Groves and her husband love 1950's cars. He has a 1956 Dodge, and 1958 Edsel, and 1959 Cadillac and a 1951 Henry J that he bought in 1953. Cars from the 1950's fit well with the Groves' vintage clothes and costume business. |
